It’s been a few days since I wrote here… Haven’t been doing anything in particular, guess I was in some kind of vacuum bubble, heh.
So, I took that TOEFL test last Saturday. Went up 5.30 that day. Mum gave me a ride to the train station and off I was with the train to Malmö. The test was held at Malmö Borgarskola, and I had memorised where it was in my head. But I guess it wasn’t enough. Because when I was taking the bus to the school, which I thought was going to get me straight to the place, I realised that it was the wrong direction.
Anyway. I got off, and looked at my map (thank god I have an iPhone) and my watch, because now suddenly I only had 15 MINUTES to get to the school. Help. And I couldn’t find a single bus that was going to that direction, at least not within 15 minutes. That is why I took the decision to walk there. Had lots of clothes on. I probably looked really troubled, but thankfully it was early in the morning and not many people were out. In the test information, it said that you’d have to be there 30 MINUTES before, else you’d risk not being let in to even take the test… I felt like I was flushing down 2 000:- SEK down the drain. I called my mum because I was upset and I needed some logic in my head.
I was so annoyed, so I was so close in just giving up and taking the train straight home. But mum convinced me to still try to get in and take the test, because they might let me in. And when I finally get to the school, 15 minutes later (10 minutes before the test was taking place actually), I found another girl who was also late – and they actually let us in! Hallelujah. They even waited for us. So grateful.
So yeah, the test went okay I guess. We did the test on a computer, which surprised me because I thought it was the good old paper and pen. I guess we’re in a new age. Anyway, I didn’t do as good when we were doing the speak test. And I who was so convinced I was gonna ace this? I didn’t understand the instructions! I should have taken a short break before doing it… Sigh, done is done. You were allowed to take notes, sadly since I misunderstood the instructions, I noted down the wrong information. And then there was a question. And I couldn’t concentrate. I feel so so stupid… I was also so so nervous, my voice even started to mess up. It was funny though, because the guy sitting next to me also had trembling hands. It’s just so annoying feeling this nervous! Sadly I have some issues when taking tests overall, especially when there’s a lot of people in the same room.
Oh well, enough about that! I changed my plans now. I will start a new Korean language course next year (2013), but at another school that is cheaper and hopefully better. Then my plan is to try to attend some interviews at schools that would like to have a non native English speaker as a teacher, lol. Even though English isn’t my native language (it becomes difficult when it isn’t, to apply) I do believe that I could be a good teacher. And I also believe that when a potential employer would be able to see this potential. Right? Okay, whatever, I decided this now. Doing the TOEFL test wasn’t completely a waste I guess, because when I get the results I can see what I did good and bad, and improve. Because my plan is still to become an English teacher. Yeah…
Dear readers. When planning a trip… never fully trust the bus timetable. At least not when it comes to Skånetrafiken. Because the entire reason of the wrong-bus-incident, is because I had a old timetable in my phone.
